The Baduy tribe tour takes you on an amazing discovery of the Baduy tribe people. There are probably not many left, but the Baduy tribe is one of the world’s few ethnic groups who limits (the Baduy Luar) or even refuses (the Baduy Dalam) contact with the rest of the world. They practice a traditional lifestyle and lead a simple life in isolation. Therefore, the area in which they live is placed under governmental protection.
From Jakarta you travel west to Carita Beach, before continuing your journey the following day to Ciboleger. From this town, you are carefully introduced to the Baduy Luar. Hike over two beautiful bamboo bridges to some of their villages and see how they make clothes, bags and jewelry. This 2-day tour offers you the unique opportunity to be a witness of isolated Baduy tribe life.
Day 1: Jakarta – Carita
Welcome to Jakarta! You are picked up at the airport or in Jakarta City and are driven to Carita Beach. This vast stretch of white sandy beach with the magnificent view of Krakatau on the horizon is situated at the western end of Java Island.
Check in at your hotel and spend the rest of the day as you please. You can swim, surf, relax with a cocktail or explore the nearby protected forests as they are home to long-tailed monkeys, giant lizards, python snakes, bats, eagles and many other species.
Overnight stay at your hotel in Carita Beach.
Day 2: Carita – Baduy tribe – Jakarta
After breakfast, you travel over hills and past green rice paddies to the Baduy tribe’s gateway, Ciboleger. The Baduy, who call themselves Kanekes, are a traditional Sundanese ethnic group who resist foreign influences and preserve their ancient way of life. There are two sub-groups; the Baduy Dalam live in three inner villages and are completely surrounded by a protective group of Baduy Luar villages. While the Baduy Luar have limited contact with the outside world, the Baduy Dalam chooses not to meet any foreigners.
From Ciboleger you hike to the Baduy Luar villages of Kadu Ketug, Kadu Jangkung and Kadu Keter before crossing the spectacular bamboo bridge to Gajeboh for lunch. Walk over another bamboo bridge on the way to Cigula and Cicakal and see how Baduy villagers make clothes, wooden bags and bracelets.
Return to Ciboleger for your return trip to Jakarta.

Ik voel me bevoorrecht om de Baduy tribe te hebben mogen leren kennen. Werkelijk een unieke ervaring, die best wel een grote indruk op me heeft gemaakt. De trip is professioneel georganiseerd met respect voor deze lokale stam. Knap!
