Cross Kayan Mentarang expedition (over land) 14D/13N

The Highlights

  • Jungle trekking
  • Dense and pure rainforest
  • Stunning fauna and flora
  • Traditional Dayak tribes
  • Kayan Mentarang National Park
  • Kayan River

The Kayan area is one of North Kalimantan’s most isolated regions and part of Borneo’s Kayan Mentarang National Park. Here, the traditional Dayak tribes of Punan, Sa’baan and Lun Daleh live deep in the lush green jungle. The area covers the upper course of the Kayan River and borders the upper Bahau River to the south. The Kayan Mentarang Nature Reserve has been a 1.000.000 hectares protected cloud rainforest area for more than 100 years. However, there is more to see than just dense jungle on this highland plateau: make sure your camera batteries are fully charged to capture magnificent black orchids, different rhododendron species, hidden caves and stone shaped burial sites. The views from this part of Kalimantan over the enormous surrounding jungle are impressive and give you an instant feeling of natural freedom.

This Kayan Mentarang expedition offers an exciting Borneo adventure for those who want to combine learning about indigenous Dayak culture with exploring Kalimantan’s exotic fauna and flora. Although this 14-day trip is a unique experience, it is designed for those who are adventurous in body and spirit.

Awesome trip - loved the fact that this was not just an excursion of a couple of days, but a real extensive exploration of the Kalimantan jungle and its inhabitants. Great trekking, great guides, great fauna and flora, great local people! These memories will be cherished for life...
