A Jamu introduction? Probably you never heard of Jamu. Well, if you have been to Indonesia before you might have seen woman wearing a kebaya and batik shirt carrying bottles in a bamboo basket on their back. They are called Jamu Gendong orJamu carrier.Jamu is a drink made of natural herbs, roots, leaves, bark, seeds and flowers.They are often mixed with animal parts and eggs. Jamu comes from the Javanese courts in Yogyakarta whereJamu was not only used to cure diseases but was also used for body and beauty care. The ancient books of herbal recipes are kept in the Royal Library in Yogyakarta. Jamu was influenced by Ayurveda from India, but many ingredients can only be found in Indonesia. During this trip, we give you a Jamu introduction. First, we will go to a market specialised in Jamu ingredients and buy the ingredients we need to make our massage oil and facemask. At a local home, we will make our recipes based on a secret family recipe.

Besides Jamu Java is also famous for its traditional massage. Each participant will get a typical Javanese massage.

Itinerary

  • Pick-up from your hotel in Yogyakarta
  • Drive to the market to buy the Jamu ingredients
  • Prepare our massage oil and facemask in a local home
  • Lunch at a local restaurant
  • 60 min massage for each participant
  • Drive back to your hotel in Yogyakarta
