Meratus Mountain trail trekking 11D/10N

The Highlights

  • Jungle trekking
  • Dayak tribe
  • Bamboo rafting
  • Cascades
  • Waterfalls
  • High bamboo bridges
  • Borneo’s fascinating wildlife

The Meratus Mountains run all the way from the southern to the northern part of South Borneo and rise to 2.000 meters above sea level, with Mount Besar being the highest peak. The region is inhabited by the Meratus Dayak ethnic group who settle in remote places along the Meratus Mountains. Nomadic farming, hunting and ritual ceremonies are part of their daily life. The area is covered by tropical rain forest, rivers, moss stone and spectacular waterfalls. By trekking in this dazzling environment, you breathe the freshness of the tropical forest air and indulge in the sound of mighty nature. Great rivers cascade down from the highlands and the Barito River is a crucial infrastructure channel between the coast and the deep interior. The river highways attract tourists who want to travel into the jungle and visit the traditional Dayak tribes.

The Meratus area is a protected “Green Belt”, as it is the home of a rich flora and fauna, including endemic Kalimantan species. Several of them are (critically) endangered species that need to be protected to ensure their conservation.

The Meratus Mountain trail trekking gives you the opportunity to explore the dense jungle of Borneo, including its indigenous Dayak culture and exotic flora and fauna. Although this 11-day tour is an incredible expedition, it is designed for those who are adventurous in body and spirit.

W.O.W. - this trip really is everything I'd hoped for. Full of adventure, lots of trekking in a stunning environment, an amazing variety of wildlife and... great guides. These 11 days flew by way too fast, which is a good sign I suppose, but I already want to do this trip again. Kalimantan is in my top 3 destinations ever visited!
