Rinjani summit trekking is an amazing experience. Mount Rinjani is Indonesia’s second highest and most beautiful volcano and has a lot to offer. Conquering the volcano and camping on the crater rim with its beautiful sunset and sunrise is an experience you will never forget. I – one of the Mundooz owners – did this climb 20 years ago and it still feels like yesterday. For security reasons, the Rinjani summit trekking is not available from January until the end of March. Please note that you need to be fit and in good health for climbing Mount Rinjani.
Itinerary Rinjani summit trekking
Day 1: Senggigi – Sembalun ( 1,156 m ) – Plawangan Sembalun (2,639 m)
You are picked up at 6 am at your hotel in the Senggigi area and driven to Sembalun.
Upon arrival, you have breakfast while arranging final preparations. You leave around 9.30 am and start with a 2-hour walk to post 1. After a rest, you start your climb to post three around 1 pm where you have lunch before the day’s final climb to the rim of Plawangan Sembalun.
Here you will set up camp and have dinner. You can enjoy a stunning view and a spectacular sunset on the rim.
Day 2: Plawangan Sembalun – the top (3.726m) – lake
After a short night (you get up at 3 am) you have a cup of coffee or tea before climbing to Rinjani’s summit at 3.726 meters ASL. You should arrive at the summit around 6 am, just in time to see the beautiful sunrise. You have an excellent view from the summit; you can see the whole island of Lombok and even Mount Tambora on Bali.
After sunrise, you start descending again to your camp on the rim, where you have breakfast before descending towards the lake. You should arrive at the lake around 12 pm, where you set up your tent.
We serve lunch next to the lake. You can even try fishing if you want.
Day 3: Lake – post 3 (Senaru crater)
After breakfast, you go to the hot water spring close to the lake, where you can relax and loosen any tight muscles. The water from the hot water spring is believed to heal all kinds of diseases, such as rheumatic and skin diseases. You can also swim in the lake and walk up to the Senaru crater rim where you have lunch and enjoy the magnificent view.
After lunch, you descend to post three where you spend the night.
Day 4: Post 3 – Senggigi
After a good night’s rest, you hike to Senaru, where a car is waiting to bring you back to Senggigi.

Wow, what an amazing experience to say the least! This trek was by far one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments to date. We were hesitant to climb Rinjani initially because we had read other reviews and weren't sure we were fit enough. But so glad we went along in the end, you won't have any regrets.
