An amazing and memorable experience
This 4-day Rinjani trekking is a amazing experience if you like mountains. Mount Rinjani rises 3,726 m above sea level and is Indonesia’s second highest and most beautiful volcano. Climbing Mount Rinjani and camping on the crater rim with its beautiful sunset and sunrise is an experience you will never forget. I – one of the Mundooz owners – did this climb 20 years ago and it still feels like yesterday. For security reasons, this trip is not available from January until the end of March. Please note that you need to be fit and in good health for climbing Mount Rinjani.
The volcano is a world-class tourism destination and has been nominated for a number of international awards, as well as being granted the World Geopark status by UNESCO. In 2004, Mount Rinjani won the World Legacy Award and in 2005 and 2008 the volcano was a finalist for the tourism in the Tomorrow Awards from the World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC).
Most tourists climb Rinjani from July to September (during the European summer holidays and Lombok’s high season), but the season already starts in April.
Day 1: hotel – Sembalun
Around noon, you leave your hotel and head to the village Sembalun in East Lombok.
Upon arrival, you check in at the lodge and enjoy the great surrounding atmosphere.
Overnight stay is at the lodge.
Day 2: Sembalun – rim
Today you leave Sembalun towards Tengengean and rest at an open stilted house – the native people call it Berugak.
Afterwards, you continue to Pade Balong for lunch.
After lunch, you turn left to climb up to Cemara Sewu and Cemara Lima, located at approximately 2,900 m above sea level.
You set up camp and spend the night here.
Day 3: rim – summit Mount Rinjani – Segara Anak Lake
At 2 am, you set off to climb Mount Rinjani’s summit to see the sunrise.
From the top, you descend to Segara Anak Lake; this takes five to six hours.
Upon arrival at the lake, you set up camp. There are hot springs nearby to relax, or you may even want to try to catch some fish in the lake.
You spend the night in a tent near the lake.
Day 4: Segara Anak Lake – Senaru – hotel
You wake up early to climb the Senaru rim before the sun rises too high.
Today you trek five to six hours downhill to Senaru on the north side of Mount Rinjani.
A car with a driver awaits you to bring you back to your hotel.
